Our own design is inspired directly by the work of artist Donald Judd. We admire his use of common lumber and simple finishes to achieve affordable and timeless beauty.
Michael Krumenacker
Owner, General Project Manager
Michael “Ike” Krumenacker founded the company in 2010. Prior to Austin, Ike obtained an MFA in Sculpture at MICA in Baltimore, and later moved to NYC, where he worked with Gary Jacobson’s Bluebird Construction Company. In Austin, he worked with Lars Stanley at Stanley Architects. Ike provides over 25 years of carpentry, general construction, and project management experience.
Additionally, Ike is a working sculptor. He was the Chinati Foundation Artist in Residency (September-October 2007) and continues to exhibit his work throughout the US and Europe.
He also is co-songwriter and lead guitarist for Austin band The Early Stages.
Matthew Hoopengardner
Owner, Lead Estimator
Matthew Hoopengardner joined Blue Sky Design Build as co-owner in 2011. Since then, Matt has helped to build and grow the company. Prior to joining BSDB, he worked as a furniture builder, installer, carpenter, and welder.
Matt is a legend in the local rock scene, spanning almost two decades as lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter for longtime Austin favorites, The Golden Boys. He currently enjoys writing and performing with weirdo-experimental band Aüstí!.
Our Crew
Matthew Rampy
Matthew has served as the Marketing and Operations Manager at BSDB since 2021. Previously he worked as a carpenter and site manager for Blue Sky. Matthew brings 20 years of creative asset management experience and leads our business development efforts. Don’t call him Matt!
Jessie Temple
Jessie Temple works as an independent architect. She also has served as BSDB’s in-house designer since 2014. She also is a sculptor, painter, and musician.
Bryan Crowell
Bryan worked independently and with Moontower Design and Build before joining our crew in 2017. He brings over 20 years of furniture and residential carpentry skills, and a lifetime of musical virtuosity.
